Hi! I’m Aurora Miner.

You can call me Rory.

A publishing professional known for wearing many hats, Rory Miner holds a M.A. in Book Publishing from Portland State University and a B.A. in Linguistics, English, and Professional Writing from UC Davis.

This East Bay Area native fell in love with the PNW, where she worked as the PSU Graduate School Format Editor reviewing theses and dissertations, interned with local nonprofit Literary Arts supporting marketing and author events, and spent her master's program as Marketing & Publicity Manager for Ooligan Press.

Rory discovered her passion for visual functionality in publishing, combining her interests in marketing and editorial (and freelance photography experience) to assess productive presentation of material; her research in accessible children's publishing was featured at the GW Ethics in Publishing conference in October 2025.

Dennis Stovall Award Winner

Ooligan Press

April 2025

The Dennis Stovall First Edition Award is given to the graduate student who best exemplifies the publishing program’s mission.

"As a passionate generalist, Rory Miner is always willing to try new things and develop new skills, which is how she discovered her love for marketing. She flourished in her position as Marketing and Publicity Manager at Ooligan Press. In this role, Rory displayed flexibility and tenacity to try new things, like tabling for the press at the Portland Night Market, participating in publishing industry panels, and writing a final project in Digital Skills that interrogated the latest trends in AI book marketing. As an intern for Literary Arts, she photographed live events and became a key part of the organization’s branding. Her final research paper, on publishing for dyslexic readers, examines accessibility as a key frontier in publishing’s next wave.

Rory truly shows the breadth, depth, and collaboration of the graduate book publishing program by always giving it her all, approaching every single endeavor with her full attention and effort. No task was too mundane or complicated for Rory to try, which is how she developed a knowledge of how the different parts of publishing work together."

When she's not dogearing paperbacks, you can easily find her slow hiking with her camera or wandering a local farmers market.

Aurora Miner is a force of positive energy and can-doism! In our roles at Literary Arts, Rory was often asked to take on new tasks and responsibilities that went outside her standard duties, but she met each new challenge with grace and careful attention. Whether pulling on her skills as a photographer, her marketing prowess, or her electric personality, Rory is always a stalwart support, and any team would be lucky to work with her.

Victoria Raible, AEC Communications & Marketing | Technical Editing Educator

I would highly recommend Aurora for any editing, writing, communication, or marketing role!

Aurora was a student in my technical editing class. She quickly distinguished herself as a standout, with her assignments consistently among the best in the class. I was particularly impressed with her strong attention to detail, especially in copyediting tasks—she correctly fixed many errors that others tend to overlook. She also welcomed feedback and incorporated it seamlessly, a quality that made her work even stronger and speaks to her adaptability. Her curiosity and enthusiasm fueled discussions, and she absorbed concepts at an impressive pace.

Beyond her technical skill, Aurora has demonstrated a fantastic ability to build meaningful professional connections and shows a keen career sense. I’m confident that these strengths, combined with her talent for producing high-quality content, will allow her to excel in a range of roles across industries.
